Lakehead’s Faculty of Law Focuses on Métis Law and Legal Issues
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission recently released a summary of its final report along with 94 recommendations for promoting reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigneous peoples in Canada. Recommendation 28 calls on law schools across Canada to teach Indigenous law and Aboriginal legal issues to all law students. Lakehead’s Faculty of Law has released a response, describing how it does and will incorporate all aspects of Recommendation 28 into its curriculum. This includes a focus on Métis law and legal issues, given Lakehead’s location within not only Anishinaabe traditional territory but also the traditional homeland of the Métis Nation.
